Mammoth

Life size sculptures of late Pleistocene animals that lived here over 12,000 years ago, like this giant armadillo, roam the grounds.

Pleistocene Bison Antiquus Skull

Bison skull

Diorama of Bison Butchering. We describe a bison hunt and butchering in our book.

Butchering

The bones were smashed to extract the fat-laden marrow.

Breaking bones

Diorama showing how clay was massaged and worked. In our book, we use this diorama to describe the making of “spirit rocks.”

Clsy

In our story, we use this diorama to describe the burial of Shonahna, revered healer and grandmother of our heroine, Mahrahmi.

Burial

This is an active archaeological site, and the on-site archaeologists welcome visitors’ interest and questions.

Archaeological dig

Visitors can walk through the preserve at their own pace and let their imaginations piece together a vision of life at the draw.
